Fátima, Aljustrel & Valinhos – A Sacred Journey

Fátima is one of the most significant pilgrimage destinations in the world, known for the apparitions of the Virgin Mary to three shepherd children in 1917. At the heart of the town lies the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima, a vast and peaceful space that welcomes millions of pilgrims each year. Its highlights include the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, the Basilica of the Holy Trinity, and the Chapel of the Apparitions, the exact spot where the events took place.

Just a few kilometers away, the village of Aljustrel preserves the humble stone houses where the shepherd children—Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta—were born and raised. Walking through its narrow streets offers a glimpse into early 20th-century rural Portugal, untouched by time.

Between Fátima and Aljustrel lies Valinhos, a serene countryside area where the fourth apparition occurred. A pathway marked by the Stations of the Cross leads visitors through olive groves and peaceful landscapes, ending at the Hungarian Calvary, a site of quiet reflection.

Together, Fátima, Aljustrel, and Valinhos invite travelers to experience not only a journey of faith but also a step back in time, surrounded by history, tradition, and the gentle beauty of Portugal’s heartland.
