Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima
Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fátima – A Symbol of Faith and Devotion
The Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fátima, located within the world-renowned Sanctuary of Fátima in central Portugal, stands as a powerful symbol of Catholic faith and devotion. Constructed between 1928 and 1953 in Neoclassical style, the basilica features a soaring 65-meter bell tower, crowned with a bronze crown and illuminated cross, visible from miles away.
Inside, the basilica exudes solemn beauty, with a central nave lined by 14 altars, each representing a mystery of the Rosary. The main altar is crafted from marble and crowned by an elegant image of Our Lady of the Rosary. The basilica is also the final resting place of the three visionary shepherd children – Saint Francisco and Saint Jacinta Marto, and Sister Lúcia dos Santos – whose tombs are visited by millions of pilgrims each year.
The basilica forms part of a larger sanctuary complex, including the Chapel of the Apparitions and the modern Basilica of the Holy Trinity, attracting visitors from all over the world seeking spiritual reflection and peace.
